Writing, University, and Kitten Updates: May 2019

I took a break in May to take care of Merlin, the magical kitten, and focus on my university work. My assignment’s finally done, and I have no more classes until November.

Researching and editing my project was fun, a good thing considering my first draft was 25000 words long when it needed to be 5000, but I’m glad it’s over as I hated the business side of it.

In other news, we’ve had Merlin a month and he’s grown a lot:

Between kittens and assignments I barely wrote a word in May, so I’m setting new goals: My current ones aren’t working during term time. I’ll start July 1st, to give myself a break, and most of my posts this month will probably be short stories and game reviews, as I’ve been gaming a lot. Tales of Vesperia is so much better with Flynn as a playable character!

My writing goals were ‘write daily’ and ‘two chapters a month.’ I stopped writing every day at the end of April because my assignment took time away from writing. As for two chapters a month? I don’t think I’ve written one this year! I plan to write a page a day again, just not during term time. I’ll also focus on finishing a draft. My target is a chapter a week until November.

As for reading? I finished Geekarella in April. It was good for the first half, falling for someone you’ve never met in person will always appeal to me, but it got predictable. I rushed towards the end, and the spelling and grammar errors in the last chapters were off putting. I give it 3 stars.

In May I read a lot of fanfiction from the Tales of Vesperia and Star Ocean: Till the End of Time fandoms. My goal was a chapter a day. I think I’ve succeeded, but I didn’t keep a record so I’m not sure. I’ll keep reading chapters daily, starting July, and get back to Beyond the Throne.

Exercise/Eating: I was supposed to set monthly weight loss goals, but I kept forgetting. I’ve been exercising regularly, but eating healthy? So boring. I like my snacks, and I’ve been so hungry lately. I’ll start tracking food again and aim to reach a healthy BMI by the end of the year.

I still plan to add fandom sections to my blog, be around on Twitter and Instagram, think about an editing business plan, and re-work my old Sunday Scribbles stories. Any other goals mentioned in my New Year post? Consider them abandoned for now! Now my assignment’s done, I’m looking forward to actually writing 🙂

  1. It happens, doesn’t it–nothing works as planned? I liked the sound of Geekarella but probably will skip it based on your review. That would annoy me too! Me, my desktop computer broke and my laptop got lost so it will be an expensive month. Sigh.

    • I think I’d have more success if I set realistic goals ^_^”
It was a fun read, and perhaps I’m being too critical, but it just got to a point where I wanted to be done with it!
Ugh what a terrible thing to happen, and both at the same time! Hope you manage to find a cheap replacement.

  2. Taking a break to take care of a kitty is such rewarding work! Love the picture of your Merlin. May was a good month, but slow. It’s hard to send stuff out and wait for responses–I’m so impatient:) Cheers!

    • Yup, it’s trying at times (I’m trying to stop him biting whilst I’m brushing him!) but when he’s all affectionate and nuzzles, or funny during play time, it’s worth the scrapes on my hands 😀
I hope you get some responses soon 🙂
